Stainless Steel Socket Head Cap Screw (DIN 912)
Size: M3 – M16
DIN Standards
DIN standards provide precise specifications for screw dimensions, head configurations and thread designs, enabling engineers and procurement teams to specify fasteners with confidence. Accurate Fastners supplies stainless steel screws to multiple DIN standards including DIN 912, DIN 7991, DIN 7981, DIN 7982, DIN 7985, DIN 965, DIN 84 and DIN 963 in SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades.
This guide explains the purpose of each DIN standard for stainless steel screws and links to the corresponding product pages available in the Accurate Fastners catalogue. Using DIN standard references ensures compatibility with existing designs and facilitates international procurement of stainless steel fasteners. For screw type selection, refer to our screw types guide.

| DIN Standard | Screw Type | Head Configuration | Drive Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIN 912 | Socket head cap screw | Cylindrical head | Hexagon socket (Allen) |
| DIN 7991 | Countersunk socket screw | Countersunk head | Hexagon socket (Allen) |
| DIN 7981 | Self-tapping screw | Pan head | Phillips cross recess |
| DIN 7982 | Self-tapping screw | Countersunk head | Phillips cross recess |
| DIN 7985 | Machine screw | Pan head | Phillips cross recess |
| DIN 965 | Machine screw | Countersunk head | Phillips cross recess |
| DIN 84 | Machine screw | Cheese head | Slotted |
| DIN 963 | Machine screw | Countersunk head | Slotted |
DIN 912 specifies socket head cap screws with a cylindrical head and internal hexagon socket drive. These screws provide high torque transmission and are commonly used in machinery, tooling and precision assemblies where a raised head is acceptable.
M3–M16 diameter, 6–120 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with hexagon socket (Allen) drive.
DIN 7991 specifies countersunk socket head screws with an internal hexagon socket drive. These screws sit flush with the material surface when installed, providing a smooth finish while maintaining the torque advantages of socket drive systems.
M4–M10 diameter, 10–80 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with hexagon socket (Allen) drive.
DIN 7981 specifies pan head self-tapping screws with Phillips cross recess drive. These screws form their own threads in pre-drilled holes, eliminating the need for separate tapping operations. The pan head provides a low-profile rounded head suitable for general fastening.
M2.9–M6.3 diameter (ST sizes), 6.5–50 mm length. SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with Phillips cross recess drive.
DIN 7982 specifies countersunk self-tapping screws with Phillips cross recess drive. These screws combine the thread-forming capability of self-tapping screws with a flush installation profile, suitable for applications where a smooth surface finish is required.
M2.9–M6.3 diameter (ST sizes), 6.5–50 mm length. SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with Phillips cross recess drive.
DIN 7985 specifies pan head machine screws with Phillips cross recess drive. These screws are designed for use with tapped holes or nuts, featuring machine threads that require matching internal threads in the mating component.
M3–M8 diameter, 6–50 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with Phillips cross recess drive.
DIN 965 specifies countersunk machine screws with Phillips cross recess drive. These screws sit flush with the material surface when installed and are used with tapped holes or nuts, combining the flush profile of countersunk heads with machine screw threads.
M3–M8 diameter, 6–50 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with Phillips cross recess drive.
DIN 84 specifies cheese head machine screws with slotted drive. The cheese head has a cylindrical profile with slightly higher head height than pan head, providing a traditional screw appearance suitable for various applications.
M3–M8 diameter, 10–50 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with slotted drive.
DIN 963 specifies countersunk machine screws with slotted drive. These screws provide a flush installation profile with a simple slotted drive, suitable for applications where a smooth finish is required and Phillips drive is not specified.
M3–M8 diameter, 10–50 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available. Cold forged process with slotted drive.
DIN 7971 specifies pan head self-tapping screws with slotted drive. DIN 7972 specifies countersunk self-tapping screws with slotted drive. These standards provide slotted drive alternatives to the Phillips drive versions specified in DIN 7981 and DIN 7982.
M2.9–M6.3 diameter, 6.5–50 mm length. SS 202, SS 304 and SS 316 grades available.
M2.9–M6.3 diameter, 6.5–50 mm length. SS 304 and SS 316 grades available.

DIN standards define precise dimensions, head configurations, drive types and thread specifications for screws. Using DIN references ensures compatibility with existing designs and facilitates international procurement by providing clear specifications.
DIN 912 specifies socket head cap screws with a cylindrical head. DIN 7991 specifies countersunk socket head screws that sit flush with the surface. Both use hexagon socket (Allen) drive but have different head profiles for different installation requirements.
Substituting drive types is not recommended without engineering approval. Phillips drive provides better torque transmission and reduced cam-out compared to slotted drive. The drive system must match the tooling and assembly requirements of your application.
DIN and ISO are different standardization organizations. Some DIN standards have been adopted as ISO standards with the same or similar specifications. When specifying fasteners, use the exact standard reference required by your design or procurement specification.
Include the DIN standard number, screw type description, diameter, length, material grade and quantity in your enquiry. Reference the exact DIN standard from your design specifications. The Accurate Fastners catalogue lists the DIN standard for each product.
